B eatrice practiced chiropractic and is currently a rehabilitation specialist working with athletes, runners and triathletes and general populaten clients. Additionally she holds a Masters in Sport & Performance Psychology.
Psychological skills training can improve your practice by promoting client adherence to rehab, improving their motivation and overall outcome. Learn how to improve your communication and softer coaching skills and thereby creating more trust and by-in from clients.
In this workshop we actually get to practice these mental skills on each other in small groups (Breakout rooms). Mental like physical skills need to be practiced and like learning any physical skill they can be more or less challenging. You will learn that some may work better for you than others this will be true for your patients. In practice it will be up to you to find the most appropriate one that helps your client the most
W e will practice
- Changing around negative self talk. Reframe negative thoughs - importantly they need to feel applicable and meaningful to you to be of use
- Thought stoppage
- Motivational self-talk (different from reframing negative talk)
- More instructional self-talk
- Visualization and imagery: dialing down pain, healing imagery and visualization to improve confidence, visualizing technique/movements
- Effective communication & feedback (using MI techniques)
- Play around with relaxation techniques, including using techniques that only take a couple of minutes
- Combine techniques
