THE DARK SIDE OF OZ is the pairing of Victor Fleming's THE WIZARD OF OZ with Pink Floyd's album The Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack for the movie. The result is a unique and fascinating cinematic experience. The concept for the film dates back to a mid-nineties Pink Floyd forum, where people started suggesting watching THE WIZARD OF OZ with the audio off and listening to The Dark Side of the Moon. The idea soon became an urban legend until Turner Classic Movies aired the film alongside the album in July of 2000, resulting in a cult success being enjoyed by fans ever since.
THE WIZARD OF OZ premiered in 1939 and is often referred to as one of the greatest and most watched films in cinematic history. The Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973 and has sold over 50 million copies, making it one of the best selling albums of all time. Perhaps it's because these two great works of art have become so ingrained in our pop culture that when put together, the synchronicity of the two end up being a lot of fun!
