About this Event
This event will be led by Anjali Dance Company and Open Theatre about what it really means to build inclusive spaces - in art, education and society.
Through keynote insights, provocation and open discussion, we’ll explore how valuing care, creativity and connection can transform systems that exclude.
Together, we’ll imagine new ways of working, creating and making space for people with learning disabilities to thrive.
Our speakers:
Alex Henwood-Martin - Director of Anjali Dance Company, an independent professional dance company of learning-disabled artists working nationally and internationally.
Founded in 1995, Anjali creates ambitious, high-quality performance and professional pathways that position learning-disabled artists as creative leaders in their own practice. Working to redefine who leads, who holds power and whose voices shape the arts.
Richard Hayhow - Director of Open Theatre for over 30 years. Open Theatre aims to place the creativity of young people with learning disabilities at the centre of the cultural life of Birmingham and Coventry.
Open Theatre currently has a team of 15 practitioners working all year round in 20 special schools. To examine and maximise the impact the nonverbal physical theatre practice can have on children’s learning and development and on young people’s transition into adult life.
