About this Event
A lovely meal. Friendly faces. Inquisitive minds.
Come as you are — leave with a question or two you didn't have before.
There is a particular kind of attention that arises when we eat together in the presence of art. Not the hushed reverence, but something more alive — a thinking that moves between the plate and the canvas, between the table and the wall. On this evening, we dine amongst the works of Fragments, the current exhibition at The Merchant House, founded by Marsha Plotnitsky in a 18th-century canal house on the Herengracht. A space that has long insisted on a different grammar: one where seeing and eating, thinking and tasting, are not opposites but natural extensions of each other.
With twenty guests gathered around a shared table, the evening takes Context, Concept, Coincidence, and Consequence as its coordinates — four words that shadow every serious encounter with art, whether we name them or not. This dinner is devoted to gallery audiences of different backgrounds and curiosities — people for whom art is neither hobby nor obligation, but a curious journey of learning to look.
Twenty guests. One table. Art all around. A frame of reference — and everything outside it. I hope you will join us!
