A Fly Falls into a Speaker
Performance/workshop med selvbyggede/modificerede instrumenter med Viltė Gustyte
og Gintė Preisaitė.
Viltės performance "Fly Falls into a Speaker" er baseret på det selvbyggede instrument "Rototo Toro" (RT). Instrumentet er en afgørende del af kompositionen og performancen. Selve bygningen af instrumentet og komponering af forestillingen foregik parallelt. Udforskningen af instrumentets lydpalette førte naturligt til idéen om historien om en flue, der faldt ned i en højttaler. Selve motorens lydkarakter og alle de summende, buldrende og hvinende lyde minder om fluens vingeslag. Forestillingen er en improvisation omkring denne novelle, det imaginære lydbillede af højttaleren med en flue i. Efterfølgende kunne man så tænke: Hvad er den virkelige lyd, der kommer fra en højttaler, fra et menneskeligt perspektiv?
Her kommer Gintė’s bidrag ind med sin udforskning af klaveret som et instrument, der er beregnet til at åbne grænser og relationer mellem objektet, andre objekter og dets bærer. Det er en spændende proces med at afsløre de lydlige resultater, hvor klaveret behandles som et multiinstrument med implementeringer af forskellige objekter indeni, elektroniske manipulationer og tape machine loops, hvilket bringer det ind i helt andre stilistiske verdener og sætter spørgsmålstegn ved lydens oprindelse.
Sammen vil de forberede en performance, hvor de interagerer spontant og tilnærmer sig sine instrumenterne som en forlængelse af hinanden.

Vi åbner et laboratorium, hvor både Viltė og Gintės arbejde vil blive udforsket på samme tid.
Vi opfordrer til at komme med dine egne hjemmelavede instrumenter og spille i ensemble sammen med andre deltagere. Gintė vil give nogle strukturer og notationer til mulige kompositioner og improvisationer for gruppen og navigere i de potentielle mystiske lyde fra det ydre rum, som vil opstå, for at nå deres højdepunkt. Viltė’s performance “Fly Falls into a Speaker” is based on the self-built instrument “Rototo Toro” (RT). This instrument is a crucial part of the composition and performance. Building it and composing the performance was done in parallel. Exploring the sound palette naturally leads to the idea of the story of a fly that fell into a speaker. The very sound nature of the motor and all the buzzing, rumbling, and whining noises is reminiscent of the beating of the fly’s wings. The performance is an improvisation around this short story, the imaginary soundscape of the speaker with a fly in it. Consecutive, one could then think: what is the real sound coming from a speaker from a human perspective?
Here comes Gintė with her exploration of piano as an instrument which is meant to open
boundaries and relations between the object, other objects and it's carrier. It is an exciting process of revealing the sounding results where piano is approached as a multi-instrument with implementations of various objects inside, electronic manipulations and tape machine loops bringing it into completely other stylistic realms- questioning the origins of the sound.
Together they will prepare a performance where they interact spontaneously and approach both instruments as continuations of one another.
Would you like to participate in a workshop/study/self-build instrument ensemble from 17h?
We will open a laboratory where we will explore Viltė’s and Gintė’s work at the same time. We encourage to come with your own self made instruments and play in ensemble together with other participants. Gintė will provide some structure and notations for possible compositions and improvisations for the group and navigate mystical outer space sounds to reach their peak of tone. you can register by writing an email: [email protected]

PRiMi’s studio nights are an alternative to the regular concert evenings. Each evening is curated by different artist and the program can contain workshops, performances, jam sessions etc. Entrance is always ‘pay what you want’.
