About this Event
Bring your own dried material, but dried plants and all the tools will be supplied. Learn herbarium techniques and skills to make the perfect scientific herbarium specimen which is used to help identify your plant. With these skills you will also be able to create unique greetings cards and artwork to be framed.
What else you will learn
- How to collect a variety of fresh plants and arrange in a press to dry.
- How to arrange your dried plants on a herbarium sheet and to apply glue to fix it neatly.
- How to re-press your sheet to obtain a beautifully pressed specimen with a label which is the basis of all plant taxonomy.
This workshop will be led by Nicky Nicoll. Nicky studied Ecology and Conservation at Birkbeck and holds an RHS Qualification in Horticulture and has also previously worked at Kew Gardens and NHM Herbariums. Nicky is a keen wildlife gardener, recent allotment holder, enjoys travel, cooking, watercolour painting and Tai Chi.
There will be a lunch break. Light refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch.
