Join us for an exclusive pre-release screening of 'IS THIS THING ON?' with all ticket proceeds going towards the work of the Human Practice Foundation to support education and empowerment projects in Kenya and Nepal.
Produced by HPF UK's Chair of the Board, Kris Thykier, IS THIS THING ON? is directed by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Bradley Cooper and stars Emmy Award nominee Will Arnett and Academy Award winner Laura Dern.
As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family—forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.
The film is inspired by the story of how Liverpool-born pharmaceutical salesman John Bishop, feeling low during the dissolution of his marriage, had entered a Manchester bar hosting an open-mic comedy night, put his name down on the performer list to avoid the entrance charge, and found himself in front of an audience improvising material about his own divorce. Bishop returned to the stage in subsequent weeks, using stand-up as personal therapy, and finally pivoting to a career in comedy.
