About the Exhibition

Practice MAkes Practice explores the liminal territories occupied by creative practitioners working in higher education. The exhibition brings together nine MA Academic Practice researchers whose work interrogates the shifting, overlapping, and often contested identities of artists, makers, academics and researchers. The exhibition reveals how creative practice becomes a site for navigating professional transitions, building communities, and articulating complex lived experiences. Exhibited works demonstrate how practice itself becomes a way of thinking, knowing, and understanding - making as an epistemological tool. The exhibition invites visitors to consider: What happens in the spaces between identities? How do creative practitioners navigate multiplicity? And how does practice become an act of self-definition within times of transition?

The exhibition represents a unique opportunity to engage with innovative research emerging from UAL’s MA in Academic Practice. By bringing together diverse creative practices united by shared concerns around pedagogy, identity, and knowledge-making, the exhibition demonstrates the vital role that practice-based research plays in higher education. The exhibition invites you to engage with pressing questions about what it means to teach, learn, and create within an arts education environment.
