Powell HS Band & Choir

Hailing from Wyoming, these ensembles made up of 9-12 grade students are performing under the direction of band instructor John Fabela and choir instructor Kathryn Sears. John Fabela received a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from Hastings College and a Master of Music Education from the University of Wyoming. Fabela began his time at Powell HS in 2008 and has led the band to earn Superior Ratings every year at their District Music Performance Assessments. The Powell HS Band also won their division at the 2009 and 2010 Winter Park Music Festival in Winter Park, Colorado. Kathryn Sears earned her Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Vocal Music Education from Hastings College and a Master’s Degree in Pre-K-12 Adaptive Special Education from Fort Hays State University. Sears has been a music educator for 23 years was recognized as the 2025 North Big Horn Basin Music Educator of the Year and the 2025 Master Teacher for Park County School District #1. Both ensembles have previously performed in Venice, Florence and Rome while traveling Italy in 2012.
