Join the DC Area Transmasculine Society (DCATS) for our Transmasc POC Social Hour at As You Are.
POC stands for People of Color. If you do not identify as white and are interested in meeting other non-white transmasculine folks in hopes of finding others with shared experiences, culture, or language, please come on by!
As You Are is a queer owned bar and cafe that serves food and drinks. The establishment is all ages until 9 pm (when it becomes 21+), but our event is 17+ until 9 pm. There is also a dance floor upstairs, but we will meet downstairs at the large table by the window.
This event is primarily for those that are transmasculine and identify as POC, but folks are welcome to bring their partners. However, since this is our only regularly scheduled weekend event, after 8 pm we invite all transmasculine folks of any gender to join us.
"Transmasculine" means you were assigned female at birth, but feel this is an incomplete or inaccurate description of yourself. This includes trans men, AFAB nonbinary, two-spirit, and genderqueer folks. Since it is impossible to list all identities that fall under transmasculine, please use this definition as a general guideline. Intersex folks that also identify as transmasculine are welcome to join.
We take pride in creating a safe, welcoming space for people. Therefore, your race, ethnicity, gender, pronouns, or sexuality will never be assumed based on your presentation. The term "transmasculine" does not imply you are masculine presenting or identify as a masculine person.
When you arrive, please look to the right on the first floor to find our table. If you can't find folks, please ask someone who works there.
FYI, on Facebook the guest list is hidden for everyone's privacy so people will not be able to see you were invited. However, it is a public event so people will be able to see if you click "interested" or "going" on Facebook. If you RSVP via Eventbrite instead, your response will private.

Gender neutral or single-stall restrooms: Yes.
Accessible to wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility aids: Upper floor can only be accessed by a flight of stairs. Attendees can ask staff to help transport wheelchairs upstairs. Bathrooms do not fit powerchairs. Entrance has a ramp, but requires opening two doors to get inside.

Lighting: Semi- bright.
Sound Level: Mid-level, depending on the crowd.
Transportation: Near Eastern Market Metro Station (0.1 miles).
