After over 25 years of fundraising, planning and consultation, we have reached decision time. We need the residents of Plymstock, Elburton, Oreston, Sherford and Hooe to help the committee decide how to use the funds raised over those 25 years. After unsuccessfully searching for decades to locate a site for the people of Plymstock area to enjoy similar facilities to those of Ivybridge, Tavistock, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge residents, we finally identified a means of delivering on our goal by joining forces with the Sherford Development project. Their Leisure Centre, funded in part by PCC, South Hams DC and the Developers, Redtree, under a schedule 106 agreement, was updated to incorporate a swimming pool. We decided to throw our weight behind the Sherford Leisure Centre to secure access to these facilities for Plymstock Area residents and entered into discussions to see how your funds could be employed to enhance the pool facilities.
The swimming pool/ leisure centre plans were supported by PCC, Brookbanks, LED Leisure and South Hams DC and passed planning on 1st September 2023.
The Leisure Centre Operators, LED, expected building to start in summer 2024.
After several "false dawns" and the need to reapply for planning with PCC, we have concluded that, unless this Leisure Centre and Pool is built and completed by 2030, it will not be built at all, and the PDSPA funding will be homeless.
