About this Event
Led by established theatre writer Jennifer Lunn, assisted by Leo Drayton, this session explores the five‑act structure and how to craft powerful stories about social issues. Designed for emerging writers in the programme, this workshop will help you build confidence, strengthen your storytelling skills, and develop meaningful narratives rooted in the world around you.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Working with other writers in the room, you’ll explore existing texts to uncover their structure, before spending time working on your own stories. By attending this course, you will be eligible to apply for our Theatre Makers project What Happens Next? So, to support this, together we’ll look at how to write work rooted in community, identity, lived experience, and social or political themes, as well as how to respond to audience feedback.
This masterclass includes:
- Five‑act storytelling. How to shape a compelling narrative arc
- Writing about social issues. Approaches to tackling real‑world themes with clarity and care
- Responding to audience feedback. Understanding how feedback shapes your work and strengthens your storytelling
- Guidance for new writers. Encouragement tailored to those at the very start of their journey.

O dan arweiniad yr awdur theatr profiadol Jennifer Lunn a Leo Drayton, mae'r sesiwn yma'n archwilio'r strwythur pum act a sut i lunio straeon pwerus am faterion cymdeithasol. Bydd y gweithdy yma, sydd wedi'i gynllunio ar gyfer awduron sy'n dod i'r amlwg yn y rhaglen, yn eich helpu i feithrin hyder, i gryfhau eich sgiliau adrodd straeon, ac i datblygu naratifau ystyrlon sydd wedi'u gwreiddio yn y byd o'ch cwmpas.
BETH I'W DDISGWYL:
Byddwch yn gweithio gydag awduron eraill yn yr ystafell, gan archwilio testunau presennol er mwyn datgelu eu strwythur, cyn treulio amser yn gweithio ar eich straeon eich hunan. Drwy ddod i’r cwrs yma, byddwch yn gymwys i wneud cais ar gyfer ein prosiect ar gyfer Gwneuthurwyr Theatr, Beth sy’n digwydd nesaf? Felly, i gefnogi hyn, byddwn yn edrych gyda'n gilydd ar sut i ysgrifennu gwaith sydd wedi'i wreiddio mewn cymuned, hunaniaeth, profiad bywyd, a themâu cymdeithasol neu wleidyddol, yn ogystal â sut i ymateb i adborth y gynulleidfa.
