About this Event
We are excited to announce that during Photography versus Thatcher: The Photo Co-op Archive prints and objects, 1979 to 1986 - Photofusion’s origin story we are hosting an evening talk with Gina Glover and Sarah Saunders, two of Photo Co-op's photographer members, who will be in conversation with Chris Boot, to reflect on the journey and work.
Gina Glover trained in Fine Art at Chelsea Art School and in Photography at the University of Westminster. She co-founded Photo Co-op in 1979 - members met at her home in Wandsworth over several years - and was an active member until the 1990s. In the years since, her work has balanced political and social concerns with scientific enquiry, and a highly personal aesthetic vision. She is currently exhibiting her sculptures alongside photography. Glover's books of photographs include The Metabolic Landscape (Black Dog, 2014), and she has been awarded the Royal Photographic Society’s Hood Medal and - twice - the Medical Research Council’s Visions of Science Award.
Sarah Saunders joined Photo Co-op in 1980 after five years in Munich, where she produced photos for the women’s movement and documented the background of migrant workers, alongside working in a darkroom and as a theatre photographer. She was one of three women (including Glover) who founded Women’s Photo Co-op with grant funding from the GLC, and set up the Photo Co-op Picture Library. She has since worked in the image library business, and is a consultant for archives, museums and not for profits, while her photography continues to be embedded in social movements and local communities. Since attending a Photofusion course about creating photo books, she has self-published river and Goodbye Hut (about swimming at the Ladies Pond in Hampstead).
The talk will take place at Photofusion Gallery, Brixton on Thursday 21st November 2024, 6.30-7.30pm.
Tickets are free, with an optional donation to Photofusion's charity, Photofusion Educational Trust to allow us to continue to offer free opportunities to those who face barriers to participation in the visual arts sector. Thank you in advance for your donation.
