Peter Gall is not only one of the most renowned and in-demand German drummers of his generation; he has also made a name for himself as an outstanding composer and a thoughtful bandleader, looking beyond the rim of the drum in a refined and deeply personal way. In 2018, he released his album Paradox Dreambox, a powerful musical statement that received euphoric international acclaim and led to successful tours and festival appearances.
Now Peter Gall presents his second brilliant album LOVE AVATAR, which won the German Jazz Prize 2025 in the category “Album of the Year.” His new songs tell striking stories, paint dreamlike collages, and—with great atmospheric density—search for fascinating musical galaxies, emotional eruptions, and the magic and love inherent in music.
Joining him is an absolute “dream band”: Wanja Slavin, Carl Morgan, Rainer Böhm, and Matthias Pichler are among the influential crème de la crème of the young, dynamic, and innovative European jazz scene. Perfectly attuned to one another, this tightly knit ensemble forms a powerful musical unit. Their performances are gripping, highly virtuosic, and deeply emotional at the same time, unleashing an onstage energy that is almost impossible to resist—unsurprisingly, the Peter Gall Quintet won the prestigious BMW Welt Jazz Award in 2021.
A futuristic conglomerate of jazz, energetic fusion, anthemic indie spheres, beautiful melancholy, surprising grooves, and hypnotic beats captivates audiences and draws them into its spell.
„Perhaps we should briefly explain why the Peter Gall Quintet is currently one of the most interesting groups in Europe. (...) in which Afrobeat, Modern Jazz and EDM remain in the subtext and thus touch the subconscious. On this evening in the Unterfahrt, this doesn’t just work on stage, it spills over into the audience.“ Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Feuilleton
„The drummer’s second solo album has become a marvel of ‘new’ jazz. (...) [Peter Gall] and his first-class quintet weave a wide variety of jazz and non-jazz influences into an outrageously homogeneous album.“ MINT
„The album is dazzling“ Jazzwise
‚A new milestone from my favorite jazz drummer Peter Gall. An album of great energetic, atmospheric and playful density. Ten songs, ten stories.‘ Max Herre
