Pavel Nersessian is regarded as one of the most refined pianists of his generation. A graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied with Sergei Dorensky, he joined the Conservatory faculty upon graduating with highest honors and worked closely with an extraordinary circle of pianists, including Nikolai Lugansky, Denis Matsuev, and Olga Kern.
A prizewinner of major international competitions, Nersessian received First Prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition in 1991. He has appeared in major cultural centers worldwide — including London, Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, and Beijing — and has collaborated with leading orchestras, conductors, and ballet companies such as the Kirov and Bolshoi Theatres. Since 2013, he has served as Professor of Piano at Boston University and regularly gives masterclasses internationally.
Across a wide range of repertoire, his interpretations often move beyond conventional expectations. Meticulous in detail yet expansive in atmosphere, he draws from the piano a sound of unusual beauty and strength, opening new dimensions of the instrument’s expressive possibilities.
