As Liminal Latinas — neither fully from here nor fully from there — Jasleni Brito and Caroline Finnegan have built a body of work from the threads of what they were given to heal from, and what they were given to heal with. They look to their mothers, and the mothers before them, as a direct and sacred lineage of power.
Patterns show up everywhere: in the art, in the themes, in the way we move through our lives. Latinas might be known for fiery stubbornness — opinionated, passionate, and co-dependent AF — but we are also brilliant, resilient, and revolutionary. You'll see all of that here. Expect paintings on wood and canvas from Jasleni, and ceramics from Caroline.
The seeds of this project were planted on the Equinox — the day of balance — with the intention that this work brings harmony and light into your world. The exhibit opens on Mother's Day, a deliberate celebration of what was passed down through generations — because we are all seeds planted by those who came before us, blooming for those yet to come.
Immigrant or not, we all face the hard stuff. And we all choose how we rise beyond what would keep us small. Jasleni and Caroline invite you to imagine — and experience — new ways of being in sacred relationship with the world.
