About this Event
It can be challenging navigating the sport community as a Muslim parent. Join Melissa Mcletchie, seasoned basketball mom, and other mothers for an honest and informative conversation on parenting Muslim female athletes in the GTA. We will discuss some of the challenges and practical solutions to help overcome them. We will also explore different opportunities and avenues for growth that exist for young girls in our community and reflect on the benefit of sport in the lives of Muslim women and girls.
Melissa McLetchie started playing basketball at 12-years-old and quickly developed a passion for the game. She continued to play in high school and recreationally in college. In 2023, she transitioned away from playing to officiating, becoming a FIBA certified official. Melissa has passed her love for the game of basketball onto her two daughters who both play competitively in and out of school.
