A Tribute to Maharashtra’s Literary Legacy
Abhijaat Marathi is envisioned as a curated literary presentation that brings the richness of classical Marathi literature to life through performative readings.
The programme will feature selected essays, short stories, and poetry by some of Maharashtra’s most celebrated literary voices such as P. L. Deshpande, Shankar Narayan Navare, Ambarish Mishra, and Shirish Kanekar. Complementing these prose selections will be a bouquet of evocative poetry by iconic poets including Kusumagraj, Indira Sant, Shanta Shelke, and Grace.
Conceived as an immersive auditory and performative experience, the presentation transforms text into a living, breathing performance, bridging literature and stage in its most intimate form.
The readings will be brought alive by eminent artistes from the Marathi stage and screen, such as Sanjay Mone, Uday Sabnis, Prasad Phanse, Hema Nikam and veteran author Ambarish Mishra whose voices and interpretations will add depth and nuance to the literary works.
Scheduled to be presented on Maharashtra Day, “Abhijaat Marathi” is both a tribute to the state’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage and an effort to reconnect contemporary audiences with timeless literary works. Through this confluence of literature and performance, the programme seeks to honour the legacy of Marathi literary stalwarts while reimagining their relevance for today’s audience.
