An intimate and affirming gathering celebrating Black Muslim women through food, storytelling, and community connection.
About this Event

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

I pray this message finds you in ease and good health.

On behalf of a collective of Black Muslim women researchers and community members including: Dr. Nadiya Nur Ali (Trent University), Dr. Fatimah Jackson-Best (McMaster University), Dr. Delice Mugabo (University of Ottawa), and Dr. Ayesha Mian-Akram (University of Calgary), it is with deep intention and care that we invite you to the research launch of “Our Stories, Our Voices: Combatting Anti-Black Islamophobia”, an intentional gathering curated to amplify the voices and brilliance of Black Muslimahs, centering our voices, our stories, and our collective presence.

This Toronto gathering is envisioned as a space where Black Muslim women are invited to be seen, held, and celebrated. Rooted in ritual, creativity, and community, the evening will bring together Black Muslimah Marketplace, Black Muslim of Toronto Foodways, and a fireside conversation curated to cultivate connections, open up critical reflection, while honouring the richness and diversity of Black Muslim life. Community allies are welcome to share space as we work to build meaningful collaborations.

We are also honoured to be joined by special guests; and , who will lead us in conversation, centering the experiences, voices, and realities of Black Muslim women.

Together, we will:

  • Celebrate unapologetic Blackness and Muslimness
  • Experience the warmth of Boon/a (Ethiopian/Eritrean coffee ceremony) and Shaah (Somali chai)
  • Savor the richness of Black Muslim Toronto foodways, delicious dishes from across the diaspora
  • Explore curated vendors, art, and cultural expression at the Black Muslimah marketplace
  • Engage in reflection, collective witnessing, gathered in an intimate space grounded in care, joy, and connection

Event Details:

  • Date: Saturday, May 16
  • Time: 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Location: It's Ok* Studios, 468 Queen St W, Toronto

We would be truly honoured to have you join us in this special gathering. Your presence would deeply enrich the space as we come together in community.

Kindly RSVP by May 1.
