Our Disability and Inclusivity Filmmaker Q&A with Film Locos & City Lights Festival.
This is one of those truly remarkable moments when you manage to get four incredibly busy working industry folk together for one magical evening - and we would love you to join us!
Locos Hub and City Nights (formerly UK Actors Tweetups) are joining forces for an unforgettable night.
Here's who is coming to talk:
ACTOR KERON DAY - Keron is a disabled actor who was in the final series of SEX EDUCATION, led the BBC show KIRKMOORE, and starred in WE'RE TOO GOOD FOR THIS, which premiered at the London Film Festival. Alongside Keron's acting work, he also does a lot of campaigning to increase and improve disability representation. Keron';s slogan is:
Diversity Without Disability Is Not Diversity!
FILMMAKER SHERKHAR BASSI - Shekhar is a physically disabled, autistic filmmaker of British Asian-Indian heritage. He has made multi-award-winning short films that have screened at Tribeca, Bilbao, New York, Toronto, Durban and London. Shekhar’s career has been truncated by health battles. During the COVID lockdown, Shekhar self-shot his debut feature, 'Running With Crutches', a critically acclaimed psychological drama that was voted by The Guardian as one of the top-ten films of 202. During his two-year hospitalisation from 2022 to 2023, owing to extensive spinal surgery, Shekhar remotely directed two short films, 'Dyktator' and 'Struny', which were shot in Poland. He is currently a shadowing director on the Netflix series Operation Wildflower. Shekhar has shadowed directors on Casualty, Channel 4’s Pushers and BBC/NBC/Sister Productions’ The Dream Lands. While shadowing, Shekhar has been sponsored by All3Media to develop a taut political thriller. Shekhar is also busy completing his new short, which is currently in post-production.
CASTING DIRECTOR SHAKYRA DOWLING - Shakyra is a London-based casting director working across British independent cinema and international co-productions, with multiple nominations and wins from the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards, whilst zealously promoting diversity in casting.
Work includes Wolf (2021), directed by Nathalie Biancheri, with George MacKay and Lily-Rose Depp; Desperate Journey, directed by Annabel Jankel (Tell it to the Bees), starring Til Schweiger, Clara Rugaard and Sienna Guillory; TIFF 2025, Gandhi Before India, with cast including Tom Felton and James Murray, and multi-language international casting of Hammarskjöld: Fight for Peace (2023), a Swedish biopic directed by Per Fly and featuring Mikael Persbrandt. At the Berlinale 2026, Shakyra cast the UK roles of Hannah Bergholm’s Yön lapsi (Nightborn), including Rupert Grint, and also cast Peter Greenaway’s Lucca Mortis, with Dustin Hoffman and
Helen Hunt is due for release soon.
ACTRESS EVIE JONES - Having just worked with Jodie Whittaker on Truckload (an autobiographical story Evie wrote and starred in), which premiered at Tribeca, and won her a Best Actress award at City Lights Film Festival, we can't wait to hear from Evie. Evie suffered a road traffic accident in late 2020, leaving her with life-changing injuries. Evie is a disability and inclusivity champion.
