Join us for a fascinating guided tour of the Oratory of the Onorati at the Jesuits’ Church, led by Rev. Prof. Nicholas Joseph Doublet, Associate Professor at the University of Malta, historian, priest, and Rector of the Jesuits’ Church Foundation.
Hidden within the Jesuit church in Valletta, this remarkable Baroque chapel is renowned for its richly decorated interior, impressive timber ceiling, and beautiful collection of paintings by Maltese artist Stefano Erardi. Participants will discover the history of the church, admire the ornate sculptures created by the Casanova family, and learn about the important conservation works carried out to preserve this unique heritage site.
The tour will also explore the wider history of the Collegium Melitense, founded in 1592 by Pope Clement VIII and recognised as the foundation of today’s University of Malta. Through ongoing research and conservation work, Fr Doublet offers visitors a unique insight into the history, spirituality, art, and hidden stories of this extraordinary complex and its role in Malta’s religious and cultural heritage.
Copies of Fr Doublet’s latest publication, Peter in the Island of Paul: Milestones in the History of Relations between Malta and the Holy See, will also be available at a special discounted price following the tour.
