Mark your calendars for our most bustling Open Farm Day of the year - our first plant sale! Saturday, May 16th
11am to 2pm – RAIN OR SHINE
Everything is PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN so everyone can participate in our local food system!
PLANT SALE offerings include:
- ANNUAL VEGETABLES: tomatoes, hot & sweet peppers, eggplant, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Swiss chard, lettuce, ground cherries, onions
- HERBS: basil, thyme
- ANNUAL FLOWERS: marigold, zinnias, cosmos, borage, clarkia, nasturtium, calendula, strawflower
- FRUIT CANES: raspberries
- PERENNIAL FLOWERS: day lily, scented geranium, shasta daisy
**CUCURBITS (cucumbers, melons, zucchini, pumpkins) and some more perennial fruits will be available at our 2nd plant sale on May 30th
Please bring your own box/tray to transport your goodies home in! Tomatoes will be limited to 2 plants/person.
11:30AM TOOL CARE & MAINTENANCE: Join our Tool Steward Peter Gilbert for tips and tricks to keep - or get! - your garden and trimming tools (hoes, rakes, shovels, loppers, pruners, etc.) in fine working form for the season ahead. Whether they need a quick sharpen or a repair, Peter will show us the ropes on how best to tackle the job. Going forward, you can bring your tools on site for hands on help from the pro!
1:00PM FROM GRASS TO GARDEN POTATOES: The whole family can join our Farm Manager Mujin Lee in planting potatoes the "Ruth Stout" way. He'll walk us through the process of how to successfully grow this humble vegetable in a straight forward and productive way using deep mulch.
ALSO ON OFFER:
The National Farmers Union in New Brunswick will be on hand to talk about the initiatives in supporting family farms in our province. They work to encourage vibrant rural communities, environmentally sustainable practices and the production of safe, wholesome food.
