Join us for a program of exquisite choral music that reflects on loss, longing, and transcendence—and offers comfort, harmony, and hope. At the heart of this concert is contemporary Estonian composer Galina Grigorjeva’s hauntingly beautiful and rarely performed Na Ishod (On Leaving), for choir, tenor soloist, flute, and percussion. It is paired with two beloved Bach motets, Komm, Jesu, komm and Jesu, meine Freude, whose radiant expressiveness speaks to consolation and renewal. The program also includes motets of mourning and redemption by Jacobus Gallus (1550–1591) and Alonso Lobo (1555–1617), alongside Max Reger’s poignant Der Mensch lebt und bestehet. Together, these works form a luminous meditation on parting, remembrance, and music’s enduring power to console the heart and uplift the spirit. With Corey Head, tenor; David Morris, Baroque cello; Farley Pearce, violone; Stacey Pelinka, flute; and Yuko Tanaka, organ.
