About this Event
This CPD session will take place during the exhibition Inheriting the Future, we will be using the gallery as a live learning space to focus on building confidence in delivering workshops and leading groups within exhibition spaces. Exploring simple, effective approaches to engaging visitors in front of artworks, alongside strategies for managing groups in dynamic, public environments. .
The workshop offers a grounded, back-to-basics toolkit that can be applied across a range of settings. It is suitable both for those new to gallery education and for those looking to refresh and reflect on their current practice.
During the session, we will explore:
– Approaches to gallery management and working within shared public spaces
– Group facilitation and class management techniques, including working with teachers and responding to different needs within a group
– Planning workshops, including timings, materials, structure and adapting for different age groups and abilities
– Considerations when working with SEND groups in gallery contexts
– Health and safety, including fire awareness and first aid considerations
– Public liability insurance and what is needed when delivering workshops
There will also be space for shared discussion, allowing participants to reflect on their own experiences and exchange ideas around what works in practice.
