Overview:
Children do not grow and learn in their own little world; they are part of a larger system and need their family to thrive. When children are involved in counseling services, there can be added benefits when the parents/caregivers are considered in that family system and involved through the process. Professionals in this training will learn the benefits, things to reflect on and be aware of as well as ways to engage parents/caregivers in the counseling sessions.
Learning Objectives:
• Learn benefits to having parents/caregivers more involved in children’s therapy process
• Participants will be able to identify ways to include parents: In-depth parent/family intake, parent consultations, and including parents/guardians as guests into sessions
• Ethical considerations when including parent consults as part of the child’s treatment plan
• Experiential, learn several different play therapy/activity based interventions when including parents
