Newport Kite Festival Celebrates 40 Years of Dreams Taking Flight
Mark your calendars for New England's premier kite festival! The Newport Kite Festival returns to Brenton Point State Park for its 40th anniversary celebration on July 11-12, 2026, offering two days of completely FREE family entertainment.
Since 1986, this volunteer-run grassroots festival has welcomed 20,000 annual attendees to experience the magic of colorful kites dancing in coastal winds. The 40th anniversary promises to be the most spectacular celebration yet, featuring enhanced programming that honors four decades of community tradition.
What to Expect: Watch internationally recognized master kite flyers perform aerial acrobatics with massive inflatable displays, intricate artistic designs, and precision sport kites. Marvel at giant dragons soaring overhead, whimsical cartoon characters floating on ocean breezes, and geometric patterns that seem to defy physics.
Participate in hands-on kite-making workshops led by experienced flyers—perfect for beginners and children. Enjoy live music performances throughout both days while relaxing on Brenton Point's scenic grounds. Local food trucks offer everything from fresh seafood to family favorites.
