New York City Artists in Studios at The Yard curated by Atim Annette Oton features 4 artists: Gregg Vance Emery, Linda Lee Celestina, Charlotte Hailstone and Ghislaine Sabati whose studios are based at The Yard in Columbus Circle. Their artwork defines stories and journeys of discovery, commitment and joy about the ideas, process of creating art from paintings, collages, mixed media to glass in the city they live and work.

Artists in Residence:

Gregg Vance Emery was born and raised in Bombay, NY, a small rural community alongside the Mohawk reserve that straddles the border of the U.S. and Canada. After completing an apprenticeship at the Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia and completing graduate work at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Emery worked in the mountains of Japan to assist in the construction of a house and art studios for a residence program there. For the past 20 years, Emery has called New York City his home. Emery continues a practice of drawing people for himself and for several venues around the New York and abroad. Most notably, for the Poetry Brothel, an interactive, immersive theater experience that started in New York and is now featured in 26 cities worldwide. He has been the ‘official painter’ in New York since 2014 (which tours up and down the east coast) and has appeared in shows in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Rejkyavik, LA, Austin and San Diego. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Poetry Society of New York. Emery has traveled extensively for inspiration and to exhibit his work, most notably a residency and a solo show in Beijing in 2017. Since that time, Emery was commissioned and completed an 8,000 sq ft mural around a pool on Roosevelt Island that was featured in Time Out NY, the Gothamist and was listed by The New York Post as one of the top ‘instragrammable places of the summer.’ Notably, Emery was selected to exhibit in the 10th Annual Governors Island Art Fair, dubbed by the New York Times as the Art Fair of the 99%. From there it was off to Brussels and the Cube Art Fair, where his paintings could be viewed alongside the work of Chuck Close and other American greats.

Linda Lee Celestina is a Chinese-Korean abstract expressionist artist and economist, born in culturally vibrant Shanghai and currently based in New York. Known for her dynamic use of bold colors, rich textures, and mixed media, she creates evocative works that explore the depths of human emotion and experience. Her recent venture into sculptural canvas pieces adds a literal and figurative new dimension to her art, enhancing the tactile and visual impact of her series.Linda's artistic journey began at the age of seven with an apprenticeship in graphite pencil realism, laying a strong foundation for her evolving creative expression. Over the years, she has developed a distinctive style that reflects her lifelong learning and interdisciplinary approach, seamlessly integrating her diverse knowledge and skills. Her abstract expressionist works delve into the profound interplay of emotions, movement, and life's intricate narratives. They reflect an enduring fascination with the emotional psyche and capture both the adventurous and introspective facets of human experience. Through her art, Linda invites viewers to engage deeply with the narratives she portrays. Linda holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and French Studies from Emory University and a Master's in Finance from Fordham University. After a successful corporate career in finance, she embraced her passion for art, officially launching her artistic career in 2023. Since then, she has participated in group exhibitions with Awita New York Studio in Brooklyn, The Fearless Artist Art Fair during Miami Art Week, and The Arts at the Ritz-Carlton by Cache Life and José Andrés Group. Additionally, she led a panel discussion on Art, Tech, and Finance with Utopia Collective, highlighting her commitment to interdisciplinary dialogue within the art community.

Charlotte Hailstone (b. 1994) is a New York-based color field painter and curator. Her practice extends from her career in Graphic Design, drawing on formal composition and color perception, merging the aesthetic rigor of design with the intuitive mark-making of painting. Her work explores polarity, perception, and the interplay of light through the lens of girlhood and evolving identity. Currently an artist-in-residence at the Yard Columbus Circle, Hailstone has been exhibited at 81 Leonard, Future Fair, Rockaway Artist Alliance, 88 Ruttkowski Gallery, Visionary Projects, Phyllis Harriman Gallery, and others.
