Welcome to New Environments, an exhibition presenting the final projects of students graduating from the MA Design and New Environments programme at Iceland University of the Arts.
New Environments refers to social, environmental, and technological challenges that call for situated and context‑responsive approaches to design. Through field research and close engagement with communities, landscapes, and specific conditions, students have developed independent design practices in which critical thinking, research, and creative exploration generate new perspectives and possibilities.
The projects are diverse in both subject matter and scale. Working with local materials and environments can give rise to new ways of working in which technology and craft meet in unexpected ways; other projects focus on waste and overlooked materials as potential resources. Some propose rituals that reawaken our relationship with the environment beyond the constant stimuli of technology and the information society, while others shape inclusive design practices that foster care and sensitivity within the social sphere.
The exhibition features prototypes, interactive installations, collaborative projects developed with communities and institutions, and narrative design works accompanied by reflective texts that situate the projects and invite further reading and conversation.

Velkomin á sýninguna Nýir möguleikar / New Environments, afrakstur lokaverkefna nemenda í meistaranáminu MA Design and New Environments í Listaháskóla Íslands.
Yfirskrift sýningarinnar vísar til félagslegra, umhverfislegra og tæknilegra áskorana sem kalla á staðbundnar og samhengistengdar aðferðir í hönnun. Með vettvangsrannsóknum og nánum tengslum við aðstæður í samfélagi, umhverfi og náttúru hafa nemendur þróað sjálfstæðar hönnunaraðferðir þar sem gagnrýnin hugsun, rannsóknir og skapandi nálgun leiða fram ný sjónarhorn og möguleika.
Verkefnin eru fjölbreytt í efnistökum og aðferðum. Sum vinna með staðbundið efni og umhverfi þar sem tækni og handverk mætast á nýjan hátt, önnur beina sjónum að úrgangi og vanmetnum efnum sem mögulegum auðlindum, enn önnur leggja til helgisiði sem endurvekja tengsl okkar við umhverfið handan stöðugs áreitis tækni- og upplýsingasamfélagsins, og svo sem kalla eftir því að efla umhyggju og næmni innan hins félagslega rýmis með inngildandi hönnun.
Á sýningunni má sjá frumgerðir, gagnvirkar innsetningar, samstarfsverkefni við samfélag og stofnanir, ásamt frásagnarkenndum hönnunarverkum og ígrunduðum textum sem setja verkin í samhengi og opna fyrir frekari lestur og samtal.
