Our mind/body system delights in exploring a breadth of movement, coordination, and sensations . This curious approach to somatics can reduce threat perception and expand our sense of safety, confidence, and joy as we engage with our inner and outer worlds. This class series is inspired by the work of somatic practitioners Diana May and Niamh Daly, with whom Avery has recently completed trainings with.
Instead of focusing directly on areas of tension, this practice reminds us that pain is a reflection of perceived threat, signaling a need for behavioral change. Many inputs can create sensations of safety and relief, such as coordination challenges, engaging the non-dominant side, eye exercises, and cranial nerve stimulation.
You can expect a slow, grounding asana practice that branches into simple and more complex invitations for novel play, while prioritizing self compassion & safety.
