The cultural event NDSM Get Lost is getting a new look! From 2024, four parties at the shipyard will join forces on one Thursday evening for an artistic program. During this evening, both visitors and residents can discover what the NDSM has to offer in the cultural field, ranging from exhibitions, performances, and lectures to workshops, live music, and more.
Are you curious? Then come along to the summer edition on July 25th at Nieuw Dakota, Beautiful Distress House, Stichting NDSM-werf, and Treehouse NDSM.

- BEAUTIFUL DISTRESS https://www.beautifuldistress.org/
Only a century ago women were actively discouraged to write about their personal experiences of psychiatric institutions. All acts of creativity were frowned upon, often even prohibited. The pen was considered the weapon of reason. As a challenge to this forced silencing, women in mental asylums began to embroider their smothered outcries onto their hospital jackets. For the exhibition Weapon of Reason, Robin van den Maagdenberg has made fabric designs in which old family photos are combined with works of embroidery from the psychiatric institution Zon & Schild archives. During workshops with female (ex-)patients, these fabrics were embroidered with texts. The works in this exhibition give a new twist to this age-old form of protest against the silencing of women’s voices.

Nieuw Dakota presents the exhibition (+ Supplementary Fee) by Thordur Hans Baldursson. The exhibition offers a critical perspective on the challenges faced by artists and cultural institutions. Nieuw Dakota organizes a guided tour along the various artworks that provide visitors with an ultimate experience by inserting a coin.

On September 26, 2024, novice curator Charmaine de Heij will intervene in the public space of NDSM. During her program, Charmaine focuses on the inspiration that comes from personal and cultural heritage and that leads to fuel for artistic expression. Who tells which story and why?

19:00 - 20:00: including an introduction by Charmaine de Heij, a special ritual by Marian Markelo, Winti priestess Nana Efua and a performance.

Art Park II: Voice of Nature delves into the concept of granting rights to more-than-humans. Could we listen to what nature, including plants, birds and insects need? Can nature be granted the same rights as humans? In this exhibition, a group of artists reflect on different approaches to answer these questions.

Het culturele evenement NDSM Get Lost krijgt een nieuw jasje! Vanaf 2024 bundelen vier partijen op de werf op één donderdagavond in elk seizoen hun krachten voor een kunstzinnig programma. Tijdens deze avonden kunnen zowel bezoekers als bewoners ontdekken wat de NDSM te bieden heeft op cultureel gebied, variërend van tentoonstellingen, performances en lezingen tot workshops, live-muziek en meer.

Rondleiding tentoonstelling: Wapen van de redelijkheid
Nog maar een eeuw geleden werden vrouwen ontmoedigd om te schrijven over persoonlijke ervaringen in een psychiatrische inrichting. Iedere creatieve daad werd afgeraden, zelfs verboden. De pen was het wapen van de redelijkheid. Om zich niet de mond te laten snoeren borduurden vrouwen in gestichten hun gestolde kreten in ziekenhuisjasjes. Voor de tentoonstelling Wapen van de redelijkheid heeft schrijver Robin van den Maagdenberg textiel ontworpen met fragmenten van oude familiefoto’s en borduurwerken afkomstig uit het archief van de psychiatrische instelling Zon & Schild. Tijdens workshops met vrouwen die met de psychiatrie te maken hebben (gehad) zijn deze stoffen geborduurd met teksten. Het werk in de tentoonstelling geeft een nieuwe draai aan deze eeuwenoude vorm van protest tegen het smoren van vrouwelijke stemmen.

Nieuw Dakota presenteert de tentoonstelling (+ Supplementary Fee) van Thordur Hans Baldursson. De tentoonstelling biedt een kritische kijk op de uitdagingen waarmee kunstenaars en culturele instellingen worden geconfronteerd. Nieuw Dakota organiseert een rondleiding langs de verschillende kunstwerken die bezoekers een ultieme ervaring bieden door een munt in te werpen.

Programma Young Curator Charmaine de Heij
Onder de naam ‘Young Curator’ nodigt Stichting NDSM-werf jaarlijks een beginnende curator uit om in te grijpen in de publieke ruimte van de NDSM. Dit jaar hebben Stichting NDSM-werf en QISSA (hét talentplatform voor verhalenvertellers, literaire vernieuwers, scenarioschrijvers en podiumbeesten) de handen in één geslagen. Tijdens NDSM Get Lost kun je komen kijken naar het programma van de Young Curator van dit jaar: Charmaine de Heij, op de Y-helling van NDSM. Charmaine focust zich tijdens haar programma op de inspiratie die voortkomt uit persoonlijk- en cultureel erfgoed en tot brandstof voor artistieke expressie leidt. Wie vertelt welk verhaal en waarom eigenlijk? Door in te zoomen op de rol die heritage en roots daarbij spelen, hoopt ze bewustwording te creëren over het belang van de juiste contextuele plaatsing van kunst en de rol van curatoren en het belang daarvan te onderstrepen.

Art Park II: Voice of Nature duikt in het concept van het verlenen van rechten aan meer-dan-mensen. Kunnen we luisteren naar wat de natuur, inclusief planten, vogels en insecten, nodig heeft? Kunnen we de natuur dezelfde rechten verlenen als mensen? In deze tentoonstelling reflecteert een groep kunstenaars op verschillende benaderingen om deze vragen te beantwoorden.
