Join us for a day dedicated to turning awareness into action and learn how your community can take real action for nature at the Biodiversity Week Launch. Sunday, 10th May | 10 AM – 4 PM
Little Island Sport Complex, Cork R623
Celebrate the launch of National Biodiversity Week with the Irish Environmental Network and Cork County Public Participation Network!
🌿What you’ll gain:
Learn how to create a plan of action and explore ideas for your own community with a workshop on creating a Biodiversity Action Plan led by ecologist Karen Loxton.
Hear from us: Green Skibbereen, a local group with experience creating our own plan. We'll showcase our actions and ideas that can be applied to other areas. In addition, we will discuss our work as the Irish partners for the Forestcarbovision project.
Discover how to identify and catalogue the wildlife in your area through Citizen Science initiatives. We are joined by Rachel Hayden of the National Biodiversity Data Centre, who will show us how to record wildlife and help us in the field later in the day.
Lunch and refreshments included.
National Biodiversity Week takes place this May, Friday 15th-Sunday 24th with free events around the country. 🌿
The day will teach you how to take action within your community, so anyone involved in a local group of any kind or who wants to get involved locally is encouraged to join us for the day. Whether you lead a Tidy Towns group, a community council, or just care about your local river and hedgerows, this is for you!
**You do not have to be a member of the Public Participation Network (PPN) to join us today. However, the PPN offers wonderful opportunities for community groups to gather, share information, work together, and also to make a difference through local policy, so if you would like to join your PPN you can do this for free on their website.
