Beginning on October 7 and continuing until October 9, Underground Atlanta will welcome ‘Museum of the Moon,’ an inflatable lunar installation created by renowned UK artist Luke Jerram. The exhibition began its tour in 2016 and has been presented across the country as a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novella award winning composer Dan Jones. The exhibition at Underground Atlanta will feature lunar-themed sound art installations and dance, Atlanta’s most interstellar DJ’s, technology-based contemporary art exhibits and more. In addition to ‘Museum of the Moon,’ ELEVATE Atlanta will join Underground Atlanta the weekend of October 7, providing free, quality cultural experiences that highlight what makes Atlanta.Displayed at the fountain plaza and presented by DIGATL, the spherical model of the moon measures seven meters in diameter, features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface and sits at an approximate scale of 1:500,000 – meaning each centimeter of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface. Over its lifetime, ‘Museum of the Moon’ will be presented in a number of different ways both indoors and outdoors, altering the experience and interpretation of the artwork. As it travels from place to place, it gathers new musical compositions and an ongoing collection of personal responses, stories and mythologies, as well as highlights the latest moon science.
