Mug Masterclass!

Join me at my Columbia City clay and fiber art studio for a Mug Masterclass, where I will share with you the 'secret sauce' behind my big beautiful Handbuilt rustic floral mugs.

I'll walk you through my unique process from start to finish, where you'll learn about the many steps of clay workability and tools I use to get my voluptuous forms, including my approach to surface design and ideosyncratic color composition.

We'll be using a limited edition speckled buff clay with lots of grog that gives our finished mugs a rustic intuitive beauty, perfect as a background for our drawings in colored clay slips.

I'll be firing your pieces for you, first to bisque temperature, and applying a clear matte glaze, and then to stoneware Cone 6 - so the earthiness remains. Your pieces will be durable, dishwasher-safe, food-safe and microwave-safe.

I have 30 years of working with clay and mixed-media, mostly in the context of sculpture and installation, including a BFA in Arts and Crafts from UGA and an MFA from University of Washington's storied Ceramics program. My work has always delved into our intimacy with nature and desire, and my pottery line caries that forward into the intimate spaces of those who welcome pieces into their lives. My designs often come to me, I like to think, from the Cosmic Mother, speaking to me when I meditate and journey in nature. I am often told my mugs are someone's favorite mug and they can't begin their day without drinking from it. That is powerful magic!

While I welcome beginners, you would need to have some experience with clay to take this masterclass. Total beginners might find it challenging. You can take one of my other clay classes to get a little experience, like Little Bowls, Nature Plates or Cat Portrait Plates or Berry Bowls.

Class Minimum: Classes need 5 people minimum to run. So spread the word to friends! I'll let you know about a week before class if it is likely to be canceled or not, and a refund will be issued. If you want to have your class run, you need to invite friends along!

AGE/ABILITY: For adult and high school aged learners. Pre-requisite is some experience with clay. It can be ANY class, mine or elsewhere. Total beginners to clay would find this class challenging.

WHEN TO ARRIVE:

Please plan to arrive to the studio no later than the start of class; Please plan for finding parking before hand by arriving to the site 10 minutes early.

Sadly, we cannot accommodate people who arrive late.

Demos start promptly at the start of class time.Due to the structure of class, demos cannot be re-done for late-comers without cutting things out of class for everyone.
