About this Event
Come and explore 2 of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, Asana & Pratyahara, to open and expand your mind to creatively write via prompts or your own free flow.
The 8 Limbs of Yoga are Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi. These translate to your Virtues and Self-discipline, Physical practice, Breath work, Withdrawal of the senses, Concentration, Meditation, Enlightenment.
But we shall concentrate on 2 in this workshop session.
Asana:
We will start with a 1 hour Vinyasa practice, to work your physical body and your breath. We will work up a bit of sweat, a bit of pace, using our breath at all times to help us move fluidly and freely. All levels are welcome, with some hands-on adjustments and modifications for all.
Pratyahara:
Then it’s time to relax in a 20-30 min Yoga Nidra session, to withdraw your senses and create a calm space for your mind to find itself opening with no modern distractions. I will be guiding you through this gentle practice, holding your hand while holding the space.
Writing:
Followed by a 20-30 minute creative writing section, where we reap the benefits of the previous physical and mindful sessions to explore our free flow writing, whether it be short prose, poetry or longer form stories, or even sketching if the mood takes you. It can be guided by prompts of emotion or feeling.
There is a voluntary element of sharing our work at the end, or we will respect your space and keep what you have written private.
I will be partaking in the creative writing session myself and will share my work regardless. There is no right or wrong, no pressure to write the next Keats or Shakespeare, and if you also think it’s a bunch of nonsense, that’s ok too.
I will be following the sessions up with each participant a month post workshop. So please keep your notepaper safe.
This is for you to reflect on what you have written, and whether it still holds meaning for you at this time.
Tea:
Herbal teas will be provided after the physical practice session and at the end of the workshop to sit and think about the past 2 hours.
