Move and Sketch at Tate Britain
Saturday 14 February 2026 | 13:00 - 15:00
Trapped in Zone One are hosting a physical meets creative activity with a walk at Tate Britain exploring and sketching their new interior mural by Chris Ofili 'Requiem', whichpays tribute to Khadija Saye and remembers the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire.
The aim of our session is to improve confidence in walking on a more regular basis, boost mental wellbeing and give participants safe opportunities for social interaction. By hosting this session will aim to merge creative medium of sketching on the move engaging with participants, who are often inactive, make physical activity part of their daily routine exploring greenspaces in London.
Background to Requiem
Tate has commissioned British artist Chris Ofili to create an artwork for the North Staircase at Tate Britain. Ofili considered the significance of painting directly onto the walls of a public building and wanted to choose a subject that affected us as a nation. Requiem is a dream-like mural, resulting from his poetic reflections.
Ofili met fellow artist Khadija Saye in May 2017 when they were both exhibiting in Venice. One month later, Saye died in the Grenfell Tower fire. Memories of their meeting had a profound impact on Ofili. It helped him find a path to create this work, which holds at its centre an image of Saye as a ‘powerful creative force of transformation.’
When making this artwork, Ofili recalled the feelings he had when he made No Woman, No Cry in 1998 (The work is on display in Room 26 at Tate Britain). No Woman, No Cry is a tribute to Stephen Lawrence and his mother, Doreen. Stephen was murdered in a racially motivated attack in 1993. For Ofili, ‘a statement of sadness was manifested in No Woman, No Cry. That feeling of injustice has returned.’
‘I wanted to make a work in tribute to Khadija Saye. Remembering the Grenfell Tower fire, I hope that the mural will continue to speak across time to our collective sadness.’

'This event has enabled me to do more walking than usual. People have been very kind and someone always walked with me even though quite slow. Very grateful to everyone at Trapped in Zone One. Have been to a few events now but originally found whilst scrolling for something to do on eventbrite.'
'My mood is uplifted and feel glad to enjoy afternoon outside.'
'It was fun to sketch and learn about the history. It was really mindful. Learning about the history of Tower Bridge and of course observing the little details and drawing from top of the tower. Also, meeting people and finding these great pockets of communities around London.'
