Session Description: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a guided style of communication that sits between following (good listening) a directing (giving information and advice). MI is designed to empower people to change by drawing out their own meaning, importance, and capacity for change. In addition, MI is based on a respectful and curious way of being with people that facilitates the natural process of change and honors client autonomy. In this training, participants will learn the core elements of MI, how to effectively practice the skills and techniques, and the benefits and rewards that can come from implementing MI.
