Mothers At Home Matter Annual Conference - Valuing Motherhood
Although we celebrate pregnancy and birth, the support for mothers after childbirth is often minimal. Too frequently, mothers are left to navigate this new chapter without sufficient recognition of the vital role they are playing. One common question asked is: “When will you be returning to work?”; implying that the intense and valuable work of motherhood is secondary to returning to the paid workforce, as if a mother's worth is measured more by her economic contribution than by her role in nurturing and raising the next generation.
This year’s conference focuses on:
- The transition into Motherhood
- Understanding the critical importance of the mothering role
- Ways to support mothers during this period of change
Join us for a day filled with insightful discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities all centered around the importance of motherhood. Where mothers from all walks of life can come together to celebrate and empower each other.

Morning Sessions: Morning Session:
Engaging talks from expert speakers on the panel; including Lucy Beney. Lucy Beney began her career in journalism and public affairs before retraining as a counsellor, inspired by witnessing the challenges faced by many of her children’s peers during adolescence. She has since built a private counselling practice and spent five years as a school counsellor in a large comprehensive secondary school.
Her work reflects a strong interest in the role of early childhood in shaping lifelong wellbeing. She has contributed to a school readiness project supporting very young children and their families, and she facilitates the University of Melbourne’s Tuning into Teens parenting programme. Lucy is particularly focused on the importance of secure attachment and emotional regulation as the foundations of emotional, mental, and physical health.
In June 2025, she authored the report Suffer the Children: Why Having a Mental Health Professional in Every School is Not the Answer, published by the Family Education Trust, which challenges current approaches to addressing the rise in mental health issues among young people and argues for more fundamental, relational solutions.
Followed by a Panel Discussion: Motherhood and Mothering – What is the Difference?
Join our panel of soon-to-be-confirmed speakers as they explore important questions:
- How do we understand the difference between motherhood and mothering?
- How can we cope with the changes in ourselves and our families?
This promises to be a lively and supportive conversation, offering perspectives and practical reflections for all attendees.
Mid Morning: We will be observing a minute's silence at 11:00 to honour Remembrance Day.
Lunch (Buffet Menu provided )
Afternoon Sessions: The afternoon will round off with a fun and engaging interactive session that encourages self-reflection, recognises strengths, and helps boost confidence.
