About this Event
Join us at beautiful Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve as we hang lights to attract moths and other nocturnal beauties. We will learn about moth ecology and identification as we examine the species that are attracted to our lights. Will we see luna moths? Ness beetles? June bugs? Giant cecropia moths? Maybe giant eyed click beetles? Come and find out!
What to Expect and How to Prepare: This event is open to ages 10 and up (anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). This event will include an easy, approximately 0.5-mile hike to a moth lighting station. There are restrooms available. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Bring water and a snack. Headlamps and/or red-lensed flashlights can be helpful; some will be available to borrow if needed.
Please Note: This preserve remains closed to general visitation while the Conservancy develops a management plan for the preserve, although it is open for select education events.
Where to Meet: Follow the long gravel drive, veering to the right at the barn. Parking is available in the gravel lot.
