Join us for Morning Calm with Rui Deng, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by CPE Bach, WF Bach, JS Bach, Liszt and Luciano Berio

Chinese Pianist Rui Deng is currently studying at the Royal College of Music in London. His performances and technical understanding of music have been widely praised by audiences and he is currently studying for an Artist Diploma at the RCM.

Rui began piano at the age of four and studied with Professor Yu’liang Tu from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. In 2012, Rui began studying at the Music School of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Professor Yu’fei Liu. He also studied with Professor Sergei Kalachev from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music.

In 2016, Rui attended masterclasses given by Professor Ming’qiang Li from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and participated in the Guangzhou Piano Open Competition, winning an Honorable Mention prize. Soon afterwards he attended the 2016 GOCAA (Global Outstanding Chinese Artists Association) Youth Pianist Competition and won First Prize and a Nomination Award. In 2017, Rui attended the Franz Schubert International Piano Competition for Children and Youth-Guangzhou, won Absolute First Prize in the Beethoven Category, Gold Prize in the Free Program Junior B Category, Sliver Prize in the Liszt Open Category, and he was invited to take part in the final round in Austria. Rui also joined the Curtis Summerfest-Young Artist Summer Program in Philadelphia, USA, that same year.

In 2019, Rui was admitted to Royal College of Music and began to pursue a bachelor’s degree. During these recent years, with the support of Professor Jia’ning Kong, he participated in the 2020 Guangzhou piano opening Competition and won the third prize. In 2023, He was admitted to the Master of Performance of the Royal College of Music and in 2025 held a solo piano concert at Steinway Concert Hall in Zhongshan. Rui will complete his Artist Diploma studies at the Royal College of Music under the teaching of Professor Jia’ning Kong and Professor Caterina Grewe in July. His persistent pursuit of music has constantly driven him to progress.
