About this Event

Welcome to our Monthly Workday!

Our group of friendly volunteers works to maintain and improve the park. If you'd like to lend a hand please join us. No previous experience is necessary.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but we ask that children are accompanied by an adult. Please do not attend volunteer sessions if you or any members of your household are unwell.

What we'll be doing:

Throughout the year volunteers carry out a variety of activities to improve the park for people and wildlife. This includes jobs like:

  • Planting and caring for trees, shrubs, bulbs and flowers
  • Creating habitat for wildlife in the park, for example by making dead hedges and log piles
  • Clearing litter
  • Looking after the community orchard
  • Managing areas of woodland and wildflower meadows

What to bring:

Bring your own work or gardening gloves if you have these. We will provide tools, though you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Please bring a water bottle if it's a hot day and wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions. This will usually be sturdy shoes, ideally with trousers & long sleeves (to avoid stings, cuts and grazes from things like nettles and brambles).

On the day:

Please arrive for the start of the volunteer session at the meeting point in the 'Glade'. The Google map coordinates for the Glade are: https://maps.google.com/?cid=8309581651352566407&entry=gps&g_st=ac

There is free parking on the roads around the park and the 410 bus, which links to Norwood Junction and Crystal Palace stations, stops right outside (bus stops Woodvale Avenue and Harris City Academy are next to the two park entrances).

Before starting work, the team will give a short welcome, outlining activities we'll be carrying out and how to use tools safely. We finish at midday and return to the Glade for tea and biscuits. You are welcome to join us for as long or short an amount of time as you'd like.
