Europa Środkowo-Wschodnia na koncercie mocarstw:
polityka imperiów i podziały na strefy wpływów w kulturze i refleksji cywilizacyjnej regionu
Warszawa, 2–3 grudnia 2025
W 2025 r. przypada 80. rocznica konferencji jałtańskiej, 100. rocznica traktatów lokarneńskich i 210. rocznica zakończenia kongresu wiedeńskiego. Ustalenia z Jałty przypieczętowały dominację ZSRR i podporządkowanie krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej jego strefie wpływów. Układy z Locarno przywróciły znaczenie międzynarodowe Niemcom, pokonanym w I wojnie światowej, nie dając przy tym gwarancji granic dla ich wschodnich sąsiadów. Kongres wiedeński ustanawiał ład międzynarodowy sprzeczny z aspiracjami wolnościowymi i obywatelskimi mieszkańców wielu krajów europejskich. Wszystkie trzy wydarzenia uosabiają zagrożenia płynące z wizji świata opartej o strefy wpływów i uzgodnienia mocarstw ponad głowami mniejszych państw i narodów, na dziesięciolecia wyznaczające ich losy, w decydujący sposób wpływając na kształt stosunków społecznych, narodowościowych, politycznych i kulturowych na obszarze Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Pokusa podejmowania rozstrzygnięć w ramach „koncertu mocarstw” powraca w nowych odsłonach – aby na nowo ustalać losy milionów z korzyścią nie tyle dla wielkich narodów, ile raczej wąskich grup interesów, sięgających w swoich dążeniach po imperialną retorykę.
Konferencja ma na celu skupienie głosów kulturoznawców, historyków, literaturoznawców, filozofów i reprezentantów innych nauk humanistycznych, podejmujących refleksję nad tym, w jaki sposób polityka mocarstw i podział na strefy wpływów znajdowała odbicie w kulturze, myśli politycznej i refleksji cywilizacyjnej krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej – nie tylko w kontekście wspomnianych rocznic – Jałty, Locarno i kongresu wiedeńskiego, lecz także bardziej ogólnym, w odniesieniu do przeszłości oraz współczesnych wyzwań regionu.

the politics of empires and spheres of influence in the culture and civilisational reflection of the region
Warsaw, 2–3 December 2025
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Yalta Conference, the 100th anniversary of the Locarno Treaties and the 210th anniversary of the conclusion of the Congress of Vienna. The Yalta agreements sealed the domination of the USSR and the subordination of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to its sphere of influence. The Locarno Agreements restored international importance to Germany, defeated in the First World War, without providing border guarantees for its eastern neighbours. The Congress of Vienna established an international order contrary to the struggle for freedom and civil liberties of the people of many European countries. All three events epitomise the dangers of a vision of the world based on spheres of influence and superpower arrangements over the heads of smaller states and peoples, determining their destinies for decades, and decisively shaping social, national, political and cultural relations in Central and Eastern Europe. The temptation to make settlements within the framework of a ‘concert of powers’ is returning in new guises - in order to redefine the fate of millions for the benefit not so much of the great nations, but rather of narrow interest groups reaching for imperial rhetoric in their endeavours.
The conference aims to bring together the voices of cultural and literary scholars, historians, philosophers and representatives of other humanities, reflecting on how the policies of the superpowers and the division into spheres of influence were reflected in the culture, political thought and civilisational reflection of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe - not only in the context of the aforementioned anniversaries - Yalta, Locarno and the Congress of Vienna - but also more generally, in relation to the past and the contemporary challenges of the region.
