An easy introduction to a 2 day Brevet ride with an overnight at Kaiteriteri starting and finishing next to Eddyline Pizzeria & Brewpub at 8 Champion Road. Both days are mostly gravel (GTT or gravel road) and some secondary quiet sealed roads.
Day 1 is 66km with 670m climbing, mostly on the Great Taste Trail via the Mapua Ferry with a few detours to make it interesting and some easy green Kaiteriteri MTB trails, day 2 is 86km with 850m climbing, also mostly on the Great Taste Trail via Jacobs Ladder and the Moutere Forrest.
Day 1 we will be leaving at 10am on Saturday the 27th June to catch the 11:10 am ferry, feel free to join us for a coffee stop at Mapua wharf and/or lunch in Motueka at Toad hall. We will be staying at the Kaiteriteri Campground which has various options from apartments to cabins or bring your tent if feeling brave. Rough plan is to catch up at the Beached Whale Resturant and Bar for a few drinks and dinner.
Day 2 is start at your own time and if keen catch up for a well deserved beer and pizza at Eddyline.
Note: we haven’t organised an extra ferry for day 1, but if numbers look like it’s needed we can ask for 2 sailings around 11am, please mark yourself as going to help with this. Also as we will be using a couple of Tasman Pine Forrest roads on day 2 a permit is required which is free to apply for on their website https://www.tasmanpine.co.nz/permit-forms, please do this as we don’t want to ruin this awesome access.
To follow this route, will require a GPS bike computer or phone with an app as nothing is marked. To follow the route use the supplied GPX, KMZ or FIT files. No worries if this is too hard as there should be plenty of people to follow or just use the Great Taste Trail and you will still get there.
Basic maps and files will be supplied soon, if the weather leading up to these dates looks really bad we have a backup weekend of 4th and 5th of July.
