Self-Compassion: An antidote to Burnout and Empathy Fatigue

Burnout and empathy fatigue are common among those in helping professions. Signs include exhaustion, numbness, resentment and feeling less competent. Compassion is an energizing emotion, and self-compassion can help you to sustain your energy and counter self-criticism with perspective and kindness. Research on self-compassion shows that it has many positive effects on health and well-being including healthy work-life balance, feeling more competent at work, and resilience. Going beyond the traditional understanding of self-care, self-compassion tools can be used on-the spot in stressful moments, no stepping away needed.

A program Designed for Helping Professionals

This interactive training offers practical tools and perspectives from the evidence-based Mindful Self-Compassion program. Learn tools for: Authentic self-care and self-compassion in daily life On-the-spot practices for stressful moments (with clients, in meetings, with family) Softening self-criticism and perfectionism Meeting difficult emotions with greater ease Alleviating burnout and caregiving fatigue Upon completion of this program, you will be positioned to teach simple self-compassion practices to others, drawing from your own experiences in the training.

This workshop is completely live and online. Program activities include short talks, meditation, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices. The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. Breakout groups during each session will provide an opportunity for participants to connect and share their direct experience of the practices with others. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend.

Please note, as this training is an excerpt of the full 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion program, it does not qualify as a prerequisite for the Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Training or Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy Program.
