About this Event
Join us for a free community event organized by ALLATRA NYC, with the participation of the ALLATRA Global Research Center.
The plastic we threw away years ago has not disappeared. It has broken down into microscopic particles — and today, these particles are found within the bodies of the species we share this planet with.
On April 23, ALLATRA NYC invites you to an evening of science, conversation, and community. Together, we will explore what the latest research reveals about how micro- and nanoplastics are affecting the living systems around us — from the pets in our homes to the bees that pollinate our food, and across forests, marine life, and oceans.
Key insights:
- How plastic degrades into micro- and nanoparticles — and how electrostatic charge, combined with their small size, makes nanoplastics far more biologically active
- Plastic particles found in the organs and food of cats and dogs — and what this means for the animals in our care
- The crisis facing bee populations — and why their decline poses a direct threat to global food systems
- How forests function as living, interconnected systems — and how plastic particles may disrupt these systems at the cellular level, affecting photosynthesis and oxygen production
- What is driving the accelerating decline of marine animals and seabirds
We will also examine the solutions being explored today, their limitations, and where future opportunities may lie.
The evening’s presentation will be led by Dr. Anastasiya Pashigreva, Ph.D., of the ALLATRA Global Research Center — a scientist and public speaker whose work bridges industrial innovation and environmental responsibility.
