Understand how training is affected by menstrual cycles and menopause, & learn practical solutions to work with your body's natural rhythms
About this Event

From a young age we are tought to dread the effects and symptoms of our periods and menopause, but what if I were to tell you we can harness their power! What if we can turn signs and symptoms into messages that tell us when to train big, and when to ease off?
With my background in biochemistry (BSc) and years of working in the medical industry, I now want to bring my knowledge to offer practical, science-backed advice on how strength training is affected by hormonal changes in our bodies, and what we can do to work with these natural rhythms rather than against them.

“I generally feel renewed and empowered with new knowledge 💪” – Jes, Previous Workshop attendee
What we will cover:

  • What hormonal changes happen during the menstrual cycle, and what the available research tells us about how this affects strength training
  • Practical solutions for how you can adapt your training to best suit you around your cycle, and get the most out of your training, whilst also giving your body the rest it needs, when it most needs it
  • Why strength training is key for staying healthy and happy before, during and after the menopause
  • How we can prepare and adapt our training throughout the menopause journey, to allow for the changes that come during this time while remaining motivated and empowered
  • At the end of the session, you will get a chance to make your own plan of action for your strength training, so that you leave feeling more connected with your body's natural rhythms, and how you can work with these to your advantage

Who is this workshop aimed at?
Anyone and everyone who experiences menstrual cycles and/or menopause!

  • Don't have a regular cycle? Don't worry - we can discuss how you can still recognice patterns, and use this to guide your strength training?
  • Already experiencing the menopause? It's never too late to tap into this knowledge, and adapt your training to better suit you?
  • Gender non-conforming? This workshop will be a gender neutral discussion based on the practical facts of menstrual cycles and menopause - all bodies are welcome!

Getting to the venue:

The workshop will be held at the FMG Project, in a private room. As the venue is in central Brighton, it is best to travel by public transport. If you do wish to drive, the cheapest available parking is at Brighton Station car park, a 5-10 minute walk to the venue.

When you arrive at the FMG Project, there is no reception, so please head down the stairs and turn left to find the gym (we will also have some signage to point you in the right direction).
