📢 Tónleikar með Gadus Morhua
Að þessu sinni ræðst tónlistarhópurinn Gadus Morhua til atlögu við íslensku fjárlögin, söngvasafn Sigfúsar Einarssonar og Halldórs Jónassonar frá árunum 1915-1916. Söngvasafnið var svo vinsælt að upp úr því var sungið á hverju heimili áratugum saman. Vinsældir fjárlaganna svokölluðu eru ef til vill að dala með minnkandi söng á heimilum landans, en Gadus Morhua tekur þau nú upp á arma sína á sinn einstaka hátt. Hryggjarstykkið í efnisskrá Gadus Morhua eru íslensk og erlend þjóðlög, klassísk einsöngslög í eigin útsetningum og frumsamið efni þar sem fléttast saman hljómheimar barokksins og baðstofunnar á nýstárlegan hátt.

Á Menningarnótt verður gamla kaffihúsinu í Safnahúsinu við Hverfisgötu breytt í vellíðunarmiðstöð fyrir maraþonhlaupara og aðra gesti Menningarnætur. Þar verður að finna einstaka blöndu af endurheimtarsvæði fyrir hlaupara, kynningu á nýjum hlaupahópi, kombucha-smökkun og heilsuhorn með hollum og góðum mat.

Sýningarstjórinn Dagný Heiðdal og forvörðurinn Ólafur Ingi Jónsson taka á móti gestum og leiða um sýninguna Ráðgátan um Rauðmagann og aðrar sögur um eftirlíkingar og falsanir.
Í safneign Listasafns Íslands leynast nokkur fölsuð verk sem hafa borist safninu með margvíslegum hætti. Undanfarin misseri hafa starfsmenn safnsins rannsakað þessi verk og hefur þá margt forvitnilegt komið í ljós. Markmið sýningarinnar er að auka vitneskju almennings um málverkafalsanir.

📢 Leiðsögn sýningastjóra um The Green Land
Pari Stave sýningarstjóri fjallar um verk Inuks Silis Höegh The Green Land. Verkið, sem er frá árinu 2021, er 34 mínútna löng vídeóinnsetning með hljóðmynd eftir danska hljóðlistamanninn Jacob Kirkegaard. Inuk Silis Høegh fæddist í Qaqortoq á Suður-Grænlandi árið 1972 og er kvikmyndaleikstjóri og konseptlistamaður sem vinnur gjarnan á mörkum þessara listgreina. The Green Land er tekið upp í og umhverfis Nuuk og Manisoq á Grænlandi. Verkið er sjónræn hugleiðing um landslag sem er í senn ósnortið og óstöðugt sökum inngripa mannsins og loftslagsbreytinga. Verkið er sýnt í stöðugri hringrás og hverfist um fjögur frumöfl; eld, jörð, vatn og loft – sem birtast sem óræð, græn nærvera í tímabundnum landslagsgjörningum.
Leiðsögnin fer fram á ensku.

📢 Leiðsögn sýningarstjóra um sýninguna Þetta er mjög stór tala (Commerzbau)
Pari Stave sýningarstjóri leiðir gesti um sýninguna Þetta er mjög stór tala (Commerzbau) sem var framlag Íslands á Feneyjatvíæringnum árið 2024 en er nú á Listasafni Íslands. Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir er kunn fyrir að gefa hinu smáa gaum í listsköpun sinni og varpa gagnrýnu ljósi á hnattræn framleiðslu- og dreifingarkerfi, sem og hið undarlega lífshlaup varningsins sem þessi kerfi skapa. Í verkum sínum dregur hún athyglina að litlum, einnota hlutum sem gjarnan eru fjöldaframleiddir fylgifiskar neyslumenningarinnar: umbúðum, verðmiðum, merkingum og útstillingareiningum. Hún fær þessum hlutum nýtt hlutverk en gildi þeirra og merking gjörbreytist þegar komið er út fyrir hið upprunalega samhengi þeirra.
Leiðsögnin fer fram á ensku.

📢 Einar Falur Ingólfsson leiðir gesti um sýninguna Endurlit
Málverk Kristjáns Helga Magnússonar vöktu mikla hrifningu þegar hann geystist fram á myndlistarvettvanginn fyrir tæpum 100 árum. Verk hans vöktu ekki aðeins athygli hér á landi því hann hélt einnig sýningar í stórborgum austan hafs og vesta. Á Íslandi hlutu verk hans hins vegar blendnar viðtökur og í dag eru þau fáum kunn og nafn hans heyrist sjaldan í umræðunni um íslenska myndlist. Engu að síður er framlag hans til listasögunnar töluvert að vöxtum og áhugavert fyrir margra hluta sakir. Á væntanlegri yfirlitssýningu beinir Listasafn Íslands sjónum að verkum þessa skammlífa listamanns sem lést aðeins 34 ára að aldri árið 1937 eftir stuttan en áhugaverðan feril.

📢 Concert: Gadus Morhua
This time, Gadus Morhua Ensemble sets its sights on Fjárlögin - the beloved songbook arranged by Sigfús Einarsson and Halldór Jónasson published in 1915–1916. Once a staple in Icelandic households, these songs were sung across the country for decades. Though their popularity may have faded with the decline of domestic singing traditions, Gadus Morhua Ensemble now reclaims them in their own distinctive style.
At the core of the ensemble’s repertoire are Icelandic and international folk songs, classical art songs and compositions my its members. These elements are intricately woven together in a compelling fusion of baroque elegance and the intimate atmosphere of the traditional Icelandic baðstofa, the communal living space in the Icelandic turf house. Fjárlögin are given the same thoughtful and imaginative treatment.

The exhibition examines fakes and forgeries that have come to light based on recent research. It traces how experts in the museum field authenticate objects in the collections that are under their care – a process that requires expertise in conservation science, art history, and connoisseurship.

📢 Curator-led tour of the The Green Land by Inuk Silis Høegh.
Pari Stave, head curator at the National Gallery of Iceland will give a tour of the exhibition The Green Land by Inuk Silis Høegh. The artwork from 2021 is a 34-minute film installation with sound by the Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard. Born in Qaqortoq, southern Greenland, in 1972, Inuk Silis Høegh is a film director and conceptual artist whose work often blends both disciplines. Set in and around Nuuk and Mantisoq, The Green Land is a visual mediation on a landscape that is both pristine and in a state of flux due to human intervention and climate change. Shown in a continuous video loop, the work centres on four elements: fire, earth, water, and air – introduced into the landscape in temporary (and non-toxic) land art interventions that appear as green presences. These elements take on spiritual dimensions, in what the artist has described as “the green colour insinuating itself into the landscape like a green serpent.”

Curator led tour by Pari Stave about the exhibition That’s a Very Large Number (Commerzbau). The exhibition was commissioned for the Icelandic Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2024, but will now be at the National Gallery of Iceland.
Hildigunnur is known for her nuanced artistic practice, which looks critically at the worldwide systems of production and distribution and the strange lives of the products they create. Her works draw attention to the small, disposable objects that are often the mass-produced accessories of material culture: packing materials, price tags, signage, and systems of display. She casts these objects in new roles, changing their value and meaning entirely as they are experienced outside of their original function.

📢 Expert-led tour of the exhibition Revisited with Einar Falur Ingólfsson
Kristján Helgi Magnússon’s paintings made a great impression when he made his entrance onto the art scene nearly 100 years ago. His reputation was not confined to Iceland, as he also held exhbitions of his art in cities on both sides of the Atlantic, where critics praised his landscapes, portraits and still lifes. In Iceland, on the other hand, the response to his art was mixed, and today few people are familiar with his work; his name is rarely mentioned in discourse on Icelandic art. Nonetheless his contribution to art is extensive, and interesting in many ways. In a forthcoming retrospective, the National Gallery of Iceland will showcase the works of this short-lived artist, who died in 1938 aged only 34, after a brief but interesting career.
