The Memphis International Blues Challenge is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind in the worldIts been running for 43 years
In 2003 Fiona Boyes became the first woman and the first artist outside of North America to win the solo duo section of the event.
She has since become the queen of Australian blues, touring both here and internationally and winning awards for her genuinely traditional take on the blues
In 2005, Melbourne's Jimi Hocking became the 2nd Australian to bring home 1st prize in Memphis.
Already well known both in his role with the iconic Australian rock band the Screaming Jets, as well as solo work as Jimi the Human, the win added to Jimi's impressive cv. He is a successful and much loved Australian guitarist and singer songwriter
18 years later in January of 2023, Sydney's Frank Sultana made the trek over to Memphis where he made history , joining Jimi and Fiona as the third Australian winner of the coveted Blues Challenge
He came home to great celebrations in the blues community, and continues to take his career to new heights
He performs at all the major festivals both here and overseas alongside some of the biggest artists in the world, and has received many awards for his unique raw brand of original blues.
Together onstage the Memphis Three perform and tell stories of years spent on the road and their experiences in Memphis and beyond.
