About this Event

Memory, Meaning and Belonging – Holocaust Memorial Day 2026

Manchester Histories, in collaboration with Holocaust Centre North, will host a Holocaust Memorial Day event at Manchester Histories Hub, Manchester Central Library, on Tuesday 20 January 2026, 6–7.30pm.

Join us to learn about Holocaust survivors who made the North West their home, and to reflect on how their stories can help shape a kinder and more just future.

Memory, Meaning and Belonging will share stories of survival, migration, and rebuilding that resonate deeply with Manchester’s history as a city of refuge and resilience.

Hannah Goldstone of Holocaust Centre North will share the story of her grandfather, a Kindertransport survivor. She will present archival materials, including newly discovered items. The talk will be followed by a facilitated discussion and a participatory creative activity, inviting the audience to reflect through drawing, writing, or poetry.

Manchester Histories is committed to creating spaces where people can explore difficult histories, share lived experiences, and reflect on how the past shapes both our present and our future.

This event builds on that mission by bringing people together through shared understanding, respectful dialogue, and the power of history to guide us toward a more humane and just future.
