Saturday, April 18th; Ceremony at 3 pm; hospitality and dancing 4-6 pm in honor of our beloved friend, Alvin Gates. St. James on Wabash, 2912 South Wabash. Parking off 29th Street. I am creating a film on Al's life, so please bring your best Al Story or how you met him, and your dancing shoes. Alvin Gates was more than just a tennis player, photographer, or tango instructor. He was a life mentor, a cherished friend, and a guiding light in the Chicago Tango Community. For years, Alvin dedicated himself to teaching people how to dance, sharing his passion and skill with countless students. His warmth, patience, and generosity touched the lives of everyone he met, and he became a beloved figure to many.
Sadly, Alvin passed away without any immediate family. A group of friends-- including myself, Khoi Dang Vu, Vivienne Culp, Jack Johnson, Terry Kirk, and Elizabeth-Anne Stewart-- have come together to arrange his funeral services and ensure he receives the farewell he deserves. We want to honor Alvin’s memory in a way that reflects the love and dedication he showed to his students and friends throughout his life.
We are raising funds to cover the costs of Alvin’s cremation, memorial, and services. Any support you can offer will help us celebrate Alvin’s life and legacy. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference during this difficult time, and we are deeply grateful for any contribution.
