TICKETS: FREE
Join this innovative art-making journey with the acclaimed multidisciplinary artist, Vanya Allen. This unique workshop invites you to be part of a living, breathing tapestry as we create a "Human Loom" performance that promises to blend individual creativity with communal effort.
Set for display on the evening of July 13th, this community artwork will not only showcase the beauty of collective artistry but also explore the deeper connections that bind us together.
An Artistic Exploration of Community:
Dive into Weaving: Start with the basics of weaving, learning the essential vocabulary and techniques on small looms, making this workshop perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike.
Craft and Connect: Experience the joy of co-creation as you sew strips of cloth, our communal "yarn," and rehearse live weaving techniques. This hands-on process offers a profound understanding of time, space, and the intricate weave of society itself.
A Role for Everyone: Gain insight into the art of inclusive creation, mastering how to seamlessly bring people in and out of the artwork, mirroring the ebb and flow of communal dynamics.
Why Join?
No Experience Needed: Whether you're a novice or an art enthusiast, this workshop is designed to engage participants at all levels, ensuring everyone contributes to the collective masterpiece.
Philosophy in Practice: Beyond creating art, this workshop serves as a metaphor for societal construction, highlighting how agreements and cooperation lay the foundation for community.
Be Part of Something Bigger: The culmination of our efforts will be an unforgettable live performance, a human loom that weaves together the stories, dreams, and aspirations of all participants, showcased in the heart of Vizcaya's gardens.
IMPORTANT: CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE
To make Vizcaya's free programs accessible to all who can participate, the museum introduced a simple double confirmation process. Here's how it works:
After you've registered on Eventbrite, keep an eye out for a friendly email from us the week of the event. All we need is a quick reply to confirm you're still planning to join us.
This small step helps us ensure that everyone interested gets a chance to experience these exciting FREE programs.
If confirmation is not received, your spot will be released to another member of the public. We thank you for your cooperation as we work to ensure Vizcaya’s resources can be used more efficiently by the community.

About Stitch Vizcaya :Textiles have long been used to tell stories. For Stitch Vizcaya, we've commissioned 3 artists to guide the community in making textiles to tell their own stories. The final pieces will be displayed in Vizcaya's gardens the evening of Saturday, July 13, 2024!
About Studio Vizcaya | Summer Art Sessions: Studio Vizcaya is a commission program that provides artists with the creative challenge to develop original, site-specific work in response to a historic site situated in the public realm. Studio Vizcaya was inspired by the dynamic, creative spirit that characterized Vizcaya’s inception one hundred years ago, and it preserves Vizcaya owner James Deering’s tradition as a patron of the arts. Additionally, Studio Vizcaya embeds Vizcaya’s commitment to shared community experiences through a process of co-creation.
